Karabons

Karabons are creatures that can be found throughout Bomberman's quest. Each one has a unique ability that can be used on the overworld - anything from granting the ability to kick bombs or warp around the world, to serving as glorified keys for mystical doors.

There are three types of Karabon:
Normal (ノーマル) Karabon can only be raised as high as Level 60, and have a maximum of 180HP. They only have one Type.
Fused (合成) Karabon have two Types, and can be raised up to Level 70, with a maximum of 210HP. Acquired by fusing two Karabons with SID. Usually.
Legendary (伝説) Karabon have three Types, can and can be raised up to Level 85, with a maximum of 255HP.

Raising Karabons



Upgrading a Karabon's stats isn't a difficult task. Destroying soft blocks throughout the overworld will net you Karabon Panels - these icons will increase the attack, defence, and special attack stats of your currently selected Karabon.
Each Karabon has a cap for each stat, and collecting any more of that particular Karabon Panel will be wasted. The combined sum of the three stats determine how much HP the Karabon will have. The Karabon's level is determined by the sum of its stats, divided by 3... though the level doesn't exactly mean much.

Karabon battling is a rather hands-off affair. You select your Karabon, and then select 3 Strategies: this determines what moves your Karabon will use and in what order, either attack, defend or special attack.

Each Karabon has a type of either earth, electricity, fire or water; this element is reflected by their special attack. If the Karabon is weak against that type attack, they will suffer double-damage; otherwise it will issue regular damage. If they are resistant to it, no damage will be dealt at all.

The Karabons' maximum statistics are listed first (ATK is Attack, DEF is Defence, and SPC is Special), followed by their type. A description of the ability they offer Bomberman, and then where they can be found.
The letter next to their number designates whether they are Normal, Fused or Legendary.
If the Japanese and English names differ, the English names are presented in brackets.

01N - Pomyu / ポミュ (Pommy)

STATS: ATK45 / DEF65 / SPC70 / ELECTRICITY
Pommy can let you warp to towns you have visited - press the B Button to open the map and choose the town. He cannot warp to Omega or Theta; kicked bombs cannot be stopped.
ACQUIRED: Rescue him from L.Forest and return Honey's ring to have him join you.

02N - Ceedrun / シードラン

STATS: ATK75 / DEF60 / SPC45 / FIRE
Hold the B Button to use a shield - Bomberman is motionless while using it, but it will block any and all dangerous projectiles.
ACQUIRED: Win the minigame in ShuraRd.

03N - Elifan / エレファン

STATS: ATK60 / DEF50 / SPC70 / EARTH
Elifan will allow Bomberman to push special blocks (distinguishable by being coloured differently than the regular immobile hard blocks). This ability is automatic and does not require Elifan to be selected.
ACQUIRED: C5 of MagBase.

04F - Pomyu Fang / ポミュファング (P.Fangs)

STATS: ATK60 / DEF60 / SPC90 / ELECTRICIY + EARTH
Required to open the boss door in MagBase.
ACQUIRED: C4 of MagBase; requires Pommy and Elifan.

05N - Sharkun / シャークン

STATS: ATK55 / DEF85 / SPC40 / WATER
Setting Sharkun will allow you to see invisible or hidden objects.
ACQUIRED: Solve the puzzle in the house in ToPlain.

06L - Thunder Liger / サンダーライガー (Th.Liger)

STATS: ATK90 / DEF65 / SPC100 / ELECTRICITY + FIRE + EARTH
Setting this Karabon will slow down all on-screen enemies. This even includes traps like the spinning blades.
ACQUIRED: Found in LiteCave.

07N - Shell / シェル (Kai-man)

STATS: ATK65 / DEF70 / SPC45 / WATER
Equipping this Karabon will allow Bomberman to enter the sea in the Beach Zone. Once underwater, you can safely equip another Karabon.
ACQUIRED: Give Lana the disinfect.

08N - TwinDragon / ツインドラゴン (TwinDrag)

STATS: ATK80 / DEF60 / SPC40 / FIRE
Will increase bomb blasts by one tile when set. Required for one puzzle, but that's about it.
ACQUIRED: Get blown into the sky by the whale in Beluga.

09N - Knuckle Pomyu / ナックルポミュ (P.Nucklz)

STATS: ATK45 / DEF60 / SPC75 / ELECTRIC
Bomberman can kick bombs and stop them by pressing the B Button (unless a Karabon's ability interferes - see notes). Ability is always active and doesn't need to be set.
ACQUIRED: F4 of PttyBase.

10F - Sea Pomyu / シーポミュ (P.Sea)

STATS: ATK40 / DEF90 / SPC80 / ELECTRIC + WATER
Required to open the boss door in PttyBase.
ACQUIRED: A6 of PttyBase; requires Kai-man and P.Nucklz.

11N - Strong / ストロング (ToughGuy)

STATS: ATK60 / DEF55 / SPC65 / EARTH
Press the A Button twice to pick up a bomb; release to throw. Bombs are thrown five tiles ahead of Bomberman. Ability is always active, but doesn't work if MarinGon is set.
ACQUIRED: Complete the minigame in Arctic.

12N - Beast Pomyu / ビーストポミュ (P.Beast)

STATS: ATK35 / DEF55 / SPC90 / ELECTRIC
Required to cross the gap between Epsilon and F.Palace.
ACQUIRED: Take the egg to HtSpring.

13N - Pteradon / プテラドン

STATS: ATK85 / DEF55 / SPC40 / FIRE
Bomb blast radius is reduced by one tile. A clear sign the game has more Karabons than useful purposes.
ACQUIRED: Find the IceFlwrs in I.Valley.

14N - Dorako / ドラコ

STATS: ATK70 / DEF65 / SPC45 / FIRE
Will light up dark rooms in Bases, but only if it is set.
ACQUIRED: D0 of PlzmBase (floor 1).

15F - Pomyu Dragon / ポミュドラゴン (P.Dragon)

STATS: ATK80 / DEF40 / SPC90 / ELECTRIC + FIRE
Required to open the boss door in PlzmBase.
ACQUIRED: E0 of PlzmBase (floor 3); requires P.Beast and Dorako.

16N - Unikornos / ユニコルノス (Youno)

STATS: ATK60 / DEF65 / SPC55 / EARTH
Required to calm down the sandstorm in Zeta.
ACQUIRED: Given to you by Queen Emeralda.

17N - Sibaloon / シーバルーン

STATS: ATK60 / DEF80 / SPC40 / WATER
Creates a Rainbow Bridge to cross one-tile gaps. Required to access some areas, and also makes for good shortcuts in dungeons.
ACQUIRED: Finish the StepCount for Tekuji.

18N - Animal Pomyu / アニマルポミュ (P.Animal)

STATS: ATK40 / DEF60 / SPC80 / ELECTRIC
Hold the B Button to dash. Rather redundant after you've got the Gold Shoes.
ACQUIRED: Complete the minigame in OldBase.

19N - Marine Eel / マリンイール (Unagi)

STATS: ATK60 / DEF75 / SPC45 / WATER
Step on the altar in Ita to reveal Golem Bomber's base.
ACQUIRED: Found in the far right side of Omega.

20L - Elekong / エレコング

STATS: ATK75 / DEF80 / SPC100 / ELECTRIC + EARTH + WATER
Allows you to walk through soft blocks. Such a useful time-saving ability... and so late in the game!
ACQUIRED: If you find the "Phantom Oasis" in Desert, Elekong will join you.

21N - Unikornes / ユニコルネス (Youni)

STATS: ATK60 / DEF60 / SPC60 / EARTH
Required to reveal the access points to access Fantasy. And by reveal, I mean dig 'em out with a shovel. Classy.
ACQUIRED: C1 of GlmBase (floor 2).

22F - SeaWing / シーウイング

STATS: ATK60 / DEF90 / SPC60 / EARTH + WATER
Required to open the boss door in GlmBase.
ACQUIRED: D0 of GlmBase (floor 1); requires Unagi and Youni.

23L - Turtle King / タートルキング (KameKing)

STATS: ATK100 / DEF65 / SPC90 / ELECTRIC + FIRE + WATER
Required to open the boss door in Fantasy.
ACQUIRED: Defeat the Karabon Champ in T.Forest.

24F - MarinGon / マリンゴン

STATS: ATK90 / DEF80 / SPC40 / FIRE + WATER
Double-tap the A Button to set a line bomb - all your bombs in a forward-facing row.
ACQUIRED: Found outside and to the left of PttyBase.

25F - Firekong / ファイアーコング

STATS: ATK90 / DEF60 / SPC60 / FIRE + EARTH
Functions like a remote control. Bombs will only detonate when you press the B Button. Definitely worth getting as soon as you can (once you get Sibaloon).
ACQUIRED: In a building in ColdSea; requires Sibaloon to access.
