The goal of each stage is to reach the exit, which is opened by collecting all crystals. At the end of each world is a boss battle; defeating it will allow you to progress to the next world. You can revisit old stages at any time on the map screen, except for boss battles.
Each stage gives you a variable amount of time to complete it in. If the timer runs out, it's the same as losing a life. Once all lives are lost, it's game over; continuing will remove all of Bomberman's power-ups. On the game over screen you are given a password to resume progress, or you can choose to save your progress to one of three slots on the PlayStation Memory Card.
There are 5 worlds with 5 stages in each, two of which are boss battles, making for 25 stages in total.
See Battle Game for details.
See Challenge Game for details.

Soft block are mostly randomised, though some stages have a preset location for a block containing a specific item. Crystals have several possible locations, all of which are listed on the maps, though only the amount listed will appear. Enemy locations were sourced using cheats to survey the stage in a paused state.
This mode is a single-stage score attack, where the goal is to complete the stage and defeat the boss while amassing as high a score as possible. This entails collecting bonus items, chaining multiple enemies in one bomb blast, and clearing the stage as quickly as possible. You are awarded one of ten ranks depending on your final score.
Challenge Game comes in 2 Minute and 5 Minute variants, each with different enemy and item quantities and layouts. You are given the option of three item loadouts:
TYPE 1: Power Glove, Fire Up x 2, Bomb Kick; ideal for clearing out foes and soft blocks from afar.
TYPE 2: Remote Control, Full Fire, Wall Pass; ideal for timing your comboes and breaching walls.
TYPE 3: Line Bomb, Speed Up x 2, Bomb Up x 2; ideal for hit-and-run tactics.
When the timer reaches 1 minute, hard blocks begin from top to bottom, left to right, until the entire stage is flattened by the timer's end. This does not apply when fighting the boss, though Bomberman will die when the timer runs out.
Reaching the exit will pit you against Bassary. See Hyuuhyuu Star for battle strategies and tips.
