My brother is moving away soonish (I’ll miss you!) and thus has burdened me with looking after his SNES and Dreamcast. It seems to be a trait in my family (well, probably just my father’s side) that we hate throwing out old rubbish; sometimes it is literally rubbish (why the hell do I still haven the broken-off zips from old coats?), but the SNES is a valuable piece of nostalgia for us. It was our first proper games console (if we pretend that people used the ZX Spectrum for office tools and whatnot), signalling both the start of our love for video games, but also our totally irrational bias towards Nintendo. Yeah, we can play all the games we want on the Wii or the PC, complete with a close-enough imitation of the SNES controller, but my brother still has a fondness for playing stuff on the original hardware. In theory I’m the same, but in practise… hmm.

I recently picked up an AV cable for the SNES, partly so I don’t have to muck about with the aerial cable every time I want to use it and partly on request by my brother. It’s quite a sight to see the ol’ games played off their original cartridge again and without a hilariously bad RF reception. It’s, uh, not so fun realising that all my controllers are kind of busted.

Oh, the irony. The very day after I made explicit notes to myself to begin a regime of backing up my files more consistently and to make routine check-ups of my computer’s wellbeing, it gets a virus and I have to spend the whole day doing countless scans to remove it. Aren’t computers great? I’ll use that as my excuse as to why I could only post the August 28th entry now rather than, you know, on August 28th.
Earlier this week I couldn’t think straight. I could barely remember what I’d actually done each day, and I’d struggle to remember if I was even productive at all. Did I try and work on any of my projects? Or did I sit on my ass and play games all day? The truth eluded me like the movements of a troublesome wasp, and I could do naught but curse myself for my slothsome folly.
Eventually I blamed it on the box art of the Phantom DVD.

Haven’t been up to much at all lately, I’m afraid. Life is mildly busy – mildly busy in the sense that I have stuff to do, even though said stuff is not exactly interesting, productive or even worth bothering with, but I guess just doing it is better than raising a stink about the issue. I suppose saying life is mildly boring would’ve been more accurate. My current events have been mildly boring. Perhaps on the verge of moderately boring!

Random Hoo Haas has a second volume of unfinished works up. If anyone actually has the patience to finish reading any of them, let me know!

Nothing terribly spectacular to talk about on the internet lately. Well, okay, I went to Portrush a couple of days ago to see a friend perform in a play; I got myself a cable that allows me to view what’s on my PC on the TV screen (time to start appreciating some gamepad-friendly PC games!); I bought myself a PSP with a really terrible selection of games; and I watched Q: The Winged Serpent, which was an enjoyable piece of schlock. I was disappointed that it offed Richard Roundtree in such a casual manner, though. I know he’s meant to be playing the “bad” cop, but come on, that doesn’t change the fact he’s as cool as Samuel L. Jackson in a block of ice.

Today’s observation: They’re advertising ShamWow! on local television. That’s kind of unexpected.

After over five weeks of avoiding responsibility, I finally made a characters and intro page for Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, as well as a comic comparison page which took longer than was necessary to make, but was a lot of fun. I hope reading about the show was close enough to the enjoyment I got from watching it!

Today’s my birthday. I actually had no interest in talking about it, because, well, what is there to say? RQ87 made the event worthwhile by sending me a birthday present! I totally wasn’t expecting this, but in hindsight, I guess I totally should’ve, it’s like the one thing he leaps to when we begin discussing the series. Once I realised the package was from RQ I was in a bit of a giggle fit because AW SHUCKS SOMEBODY LIKES ME :), I totally had a big stupid smile on my face…

I began watching the first series of Blackadder a week or so ago and finished the last episode tonight. Although I’m not as familiar with the series as I’d like to be, I positively love Blackadder Goes Forth, and I always love seeing how series can start off so humbly. The series truly shines with its razor-sharp wit and punchy dialogue, and it truly makes the best out of having three characters traipse around a single set for half the episode.

The first series isn’t like that.

For the past few weeks I’ve been sorting through the music library on my computer, weeding out any songs I just don’t feel are necessary to hold onto and basically slimming it all down. Apparently I have just under 4000 songs in my music playlist, which actually isn’t as bad as it used to be, but I don’t really listen to music much and when I do I usually just stick with the same old songs I’ve always listened to. There’s apparently over a thousand songs I’ve never actually listened to, and that’s terrible. Or, more accurately, there’s over a thousand songs that I’ve probably listened to once and then skipped over before it truly ends so iTunes doesn’t add a number to its Play Count value. For some reason Play Counts bug the hell out of me. If it’s an unplayed song then sure, no problem, but if it’s one that’s played several times it irritates me to see it continuously rack up. It used to be that every time my brother came over every System of a Down song I would play would rise by like three counts by the time he’d leave. Bugged the absolute piss out of me. I’m just that neurotic.

I’m back. I actually returned home yesterday but I’ve kind of been such a lazy unproductive ass for so long that I was truly unable to write anything. Despite the fact that I’d been keeping a crude journal of my days away, so I could have just copied something from it and through a few pop culture references into it. But I didn’t, because I’m just that lazy.

I’ve officially had this cold for over a week now and it still hasn’t fully cleared up. I hate the world!

Also, just a head’s up, I’ll be away for a week starting from tomorrow. I’ve, uh, no idea where it is I’m going! It’s somewhere in the countryside, I guess, but that’s about as specific as my knowledge goes. It’d be pretty rad if I could say I was taking a holiday to hell, but well, no, that’d be a little unpleasant. The damned do not accept tourists well.

Y’know, when I started the WordPress one of my ideas was to have a stupid piece of doodling included in each entry, just to liven things up a little. If this is the kind of pleasant imagery I’m going to include, might be best if I didn’t.

If you hadn’t guessed, I’ve got a cold again and it’s left me completely vegetated. I’m serious, I did nothing but sit on my arse all day and play Left 4 Dead 2 because I was literally unable to do anything else. Which is all fine and well in its own right, but when I seriously want to be productive and start doing a bit of work, it’s not so cool. I hope to have a General Writing and maybe an update to the Red Dwarf Section sometime before July, but we’ll just see what happens. You kinda lose the incentive to write when you’re coughing up enormous boogers every day.
