Not far from Bomberman's hometown of Peace Town is the sprawling metropolis, Diamond City. Carat Diamond and Dr. Mook plot to invade the small town, and begin their plan by holding a robot fighting tournament. Keen to pilfer White Bomberman's advanced combat capabilities, the two create a fake Bomberman to kidnap the real deal. Black Bomberman catches wind of this plan to take over Diamond City and tries to stop them, but gets clobbered and his castle taken over for his troubles. He struggles away and seeks support from White Bomberman, the two putting aside their previous hostilities to face the incoming robot army. |
The first in the Super Bomberman series, this follows the same pattern that fueled the PC Engine games before it - blow up enemies, find the exit, sometimes there's a boss, yadda yadda. So what's new about it? How about some 2-player co-op?! (okay, it was beaten to the punch by the arcade games, but it's still the first time on a home console you can play the main game co-operatively)
Outside of that, there's not much unique about it. It serves as the introduction of the Power Glove, and it's got some interesting quirks seen nowhere else (you can bludgeon enemies to death with kicked bombs); its main claim to fame is simply being a decent game on a popular console, helping introduce new fans to the series. |
