Garnet Grossular is a young boy with an affinity with nature. He is a distant ancestor of one of the thieves responsible for the theft of the Secret Stones five hundred years ago.
A feisty and energetic kid, he loves nature, and claims to hear messages in the wind which assumedly guide him on his quest for the Secret Stones. He believes nature holds the greatest power and could top magic and science any day, though unlike Paz and Rald, he rarely engages in such arguments. Garnet has had a rough history with politicians, what with the State being responsible for the death of his parents and destruction of his orphanage, and he blames them for ruining the peace of the kingdom. Paz is the sole recipient of this anger, and Garnet considers him to be his greatest nemesis.
His ambition is generally to achieve world peace, though how he achieves that varies - sometimes it just involves kicking Paz out of parliament, on one instance he tries to make the world happier by creating a theme park, and sometimes he just announces that world peace has been achieved and leaves it at that.
He has been friends with Thyst since they were children and the two have affections for each other, but being kids each with their own problems (Garnet's a plonker and Thyst is terminally shy) they have difficulty actually expressing this.
He hates Paz's guts and kicking him out of the kingdom is arguably his biggest goal; Paz just sees him as a juvenile nuisance.

A descendant of the thief Grossular, who stole the secret stone 500 years ago.
When he was a child, his parents were arrested and killed by the state, leaving him in an orphanage.
He had lived there in peace, until later on when the orphanage was demolished by the state to make way for construction.
As such, he had great animosity for the state and its magic users, and believed all states and all magic users harbored hatred for humans.
He proceeded to sneak into the state headquarters to steal information.
During this expedition he heard of the Secret Stones and Paz's desire to possess them.
He swore to recover the stones before Paz, hoping it would shatter his ambition and restore peace to the kingdom.
He has a positive personality, although he's a little scatterbrained. A fan of nature; hates lies. His hobby is to climb to high places.

Garnet hangs out on a hill above Forset Town.
Garnet's age varies between versions; he's 15 years old in the arcade game, 13 in the PlayStation and English Game Boy editions - for some reason in the Japanese Game Boy version he's 14!
His surname is never mentioned in any of the in-game dialogue, and thus doesn't have an official English translation. It can be romanized as "Gurosshura", though it should translate as Grossular to keep the gemstone theme running.

Garnet is gonna kick Paz's butt.
Garnet wants world peace, and then forgets what he's doing.
The chance to be the strongest man in the world? Oh sweet dog, you know Garnet is all over that.
Garnet's attack pattern is to fill the centre row, and three rows on both sides. Functionally similar to C-Mond's, this is efficient at filling the enemy's screen, the centre column particularly good at deflecting the opponent's ball.
When facing Garnet as an opponent, bouncing between the centre column can allow you to easily whittle down the two sides.
