Planet Cybertron is in Grave Danger: Part 2
Having been told what to do with the bombs, the Decepticon Headmasters prepare to move out. Zarak tells them that they will not tell any of the other Decepticons about their plan until the bombs have been activated, that way it should be too late for any of them to try and stop them from blowing up Cybertron.
The Autobot Headmasters wonder why Weirdwolf and the others vanished suddenly, and they figure out that it must have been something important for them to stop fighting so abruptly. They split up and try to find out what they're up to, leaving the other Autobots to keep fighting the Decepticons. The Autobots appear to gain the
upper hand though and Zarak tells Galvatron to face facts and change their strategy, although he doesn't listen.
As the Autobots and Decepticons continue fighting, Chromedome finds Mindewipe and Weirdwolf up to something, although he wonders where Skullcruncher is. He also notices that Mindewipe is carrying something on his back and decides that the Decepticon Headmasters are up to something and so follows them as they lead him straight to...
...Skullcruncher, who has made an entrance to Vector Sigma. Weirdwolf reminds Mindewipe
about the thirty minute countdown, and then sends him in. Weirdwolf and Skullcruncher remain behind and guard the path Mindwipe has just gone down, unknowingly watched by Chromedome. Needing some backup, he uses a telepathic technique he and the others learned on Master to contact the other Autobot Headmasters, who meet up with him.
Chromedome explains about how he saw Mindewipe go inside and that they must be up to something, and it must involve Vector Sigma as the route he has gone is quite near to it. Deciding they have to stop Mindewipe from getting there, the Autobot Headmasters take on Weirdwolf and Skullcruncher, but with
four against two the battle is in the Autobot's favour so Chromedome rushes off inside leaving the others to take on the Decepticons.
Fortress then appears in his battleship and takes a few pot shots at the two Decepticons, who retreat inside and are followed by the Autobots.
Chromedome is ahead of the others and tries to find Mindwipe, but he doesn't know the exact way to Vector Sigma himself and ends up in a large room with a single bridge in it. With it being the only way across, Chromedome doesn't turn back but instead tries to cross the bridge, but as soon as he steps on it it begins to fall apart completely and he ends up falling.
Meanwhile the other Autobots not only have to battle Weirdwolf and Skullcruncher, but also Vector Sigma's many defenses, which slows them down. Chromedome comes round and finds himself in a room full of collapsing pipes which spurt sulphuric acid everywhere, although he manages to escape. As this is going on the Autobots and Decepticons are still fighting each other on Cybertron's surface, although Kup reports that the Decepticons are being pushed back.
After being chased by a load of bats, Mindewipe ends up falling down a set of stairs and thinks that he's in a dead end, only to open a door and finally find the Vector Sigma computer. He runs inside and starts planting the bombs, but Chromedome shows up and asks Mindwipe what he is doing.
And since Mindwipe has already planted two of the things, he shows Chromedome the final bomb and says that once it is set, it cannot be stopped or removed, and that the explosion from when they will go off will destroy Vector Sigma and as a result of that destroy Cybertron entirely. Mindwipe then quickly sets the last bomb before Chromedome can stop him. Chromedome tries to remove it whilst Mindwipe transforms and flies off.
The other Autobots Headmasters arrive, as do Weirdwolf and Skullcruncher, but once the 2 Decepticons see that the bombs have been set they run off. Chromedome fills in the others about the bombs and they all try to remove them, but with no success. Highbrow then says that they cannot stay here and they have to alert everyone on the surface about what is going to happen or they'll all die, so they all start heading back. On the surface, both sides are still fighting blissfully unaware about what is going to happen.
Zarak then appears saying that all the Decepticons need to retreat immediately. Galvatron tells him to get lost but Zarak goes on to explain that he's had bombs planted in Vector Sigma which will detonate in fifteen minutes, destroying the planet entirely, and that it had to be done to stop the Autobots from getting this new metal. Galvatron is outraged that Zarak has done this and runs off to try and stop the bombs, much to Soundblaster's dismay.
Fortress returns with the Headmasters and fills Rodimus in on the bomb situation, and explains that they cannot stop them from going off. With no other option than to evacuate the planet, Rodimus makes it so and all of the Autobots prepare to leave whilst Galvatron continues to make his way to Vector Sigma. There are only a few minutes left as Rodimus takes one last look at the planet before climbing onboard the Trainbots, which then take off.
Galvatron arrives at Vector Sigma but doesn't know that there are only a few seconds left on the countdown. The bombs explode and Galvatron is caught in the center of the blast, which destroys Vector Sigma as intended.
And with the destruction of the computer, Cybertron itself starts to explode as Zarak wanted, and within seconds explosions happen all over the planet. After a few seconds Cybertron becomes nothing more than an uninhabitable husk with the lower portion of the planet completely blown away.
Later on the Autobots return to their devastated homeplanet. Rodimus turns around and says that he is going to go on a journey to find a new planet for the Autobots to live in peace on, and says that now is the time of the Headmasters and puts Fortress Maximus in charge of the Autobots.
Kup and Blurr want to join Rodimus on his journey and he lets them. Arcee asks if she can go as well but Rodimus refuses, saying that he has enough going as it is and that she must stay behind to look after Daniel and Wheelie. And with that, the three robots fly off into the distance whilst the rest of the Autobots watch them depart.
This is the last time we see Rodimus Prime, Kup and Blurr in the series. However, they do come back in the Japanese only Headmasters comic book series, or so I've read.
In a strange break from tradition, Rodimus doesn't hand over the Matrix to Fortress. If he's making Fortress the new leader, then surely he should have given him it since it's the Matrix of Leadership?
And speaking of the Matrix, surely a situation like this would mean it would be needed to light the Autobots' darkest hour? It worked in destroying Unicron, it worked in stopping the hate plague, surely it could stop
three bombs from going off?
