This'll be frustrating.
ADV Films released a DVD and a VHS tape of the OVAs a few years back (though
they're not listed on their site), but they're hard to come by without shelling
far too much for four half-hour long episodes. Amazon US has four VHS tapes, but
it's hard to tell if it's two episodes per tape, one per tape or if some of
those are repeated listings. No idea if they're dubbed, subtitled or whatever,
so if you're cranky about that sort of thing then stick with the DVDs.
But there are two DVDs on Amazon! One simply called "Ruin Explorers, Vol. 1" and another replacing the volume with the subtitle "Quest for the Ultimate Power!". Their covers are the same, except for the former claiming it's been digitally remastered in 5.1 sound, so that's a major help. The DVD I got is by Manga Anime Cartoon (a bootleg group, apparently) and lacks any company names or whatever when the DVD is started and lacks the extras menu, despite being pictured on the back, though apparently all I'm missing is a "scrapbook," a link to ADV Films website and the credits. I'd say look out for this, but, y'know, why? It's ADV Films' fault for not reissuing the DVDs. And I'm not missing out on much. FIGHT THA POWER
There's also Japanese laserdiscs that have funky looking extras, but good luck keeping your arm and leg when buying them!
