Just when Bomberman thought the Five Dastardly Bombers were a long-gone threat, they return with a vengeance and a new master... Bagura! They unleash an assault across five planets, attacking the Bomber Nebula's defence systems.

It's a good thing Bomberman and Black Bomber are on the case, with a little help from their new friends, the Louies!

A return to basics, this instalment drops the expansive, screen-scrolling levels of the last game and brings back the single-screen co-op antics of the first Super Bomberman - now with actual level design!

It also serves as the return of the Five Dastardly Bombers, and introduces the Louies to the Super Nintendo.

Super Bomberman 3 could probably be considered the Super Nintendo counterpart to Bomberman '94. Both have Louies, Bagura as the main enemy and the core mechanism-destroying gameplay, not to mention the same graphical style. However, the only crew member shared between the two games is Shoji Mizuno, the art director.

The playable Bombermen in the Battle Game would later reappear in Bomberman for the PlayStation.

Shogakukan published a guidebook for this game.
